High-Impact Training and The Game Changers Debate on JRE
Thursday Dec 19, 2019
Thursday Dec 19, 2019
Hey monkiis,
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and staying Wild. This podcast was inspired by the cover of a magazine I saw on my living room floor. I was taken aback when I saw the headline touting "low impact" exercise. I find it concerning that low impact training is perceived as being "better" for you than other modes of training that are more high-impact. Basically, training should be as high-impact as you can recover from and should absolutely be varied in intensity. You also need to allow for proper rest as well as include de-load training blocks. I also wanted to comment on the recent debate I heard on Joe Rogan's podcast which featured James Wilks (one of the producers of The Game Changers documentary) and Chris Kresser (Functional Medicine expert). Nutrition (in my opinion) is not so scientific and it is extremely challenging to make universal recommendations. There are certainly ways of eating that for sure are better for most people (i.e. removing processed foods) and just this step alone would provide a HUGE benefit for the vast majority of the population. After that, it's a personal experiment that you must take on for yourself. It's worth a listen if you can get past the arguing.
Thank you for tuning in and please leave a 5-start review wherever you enjoy your podcasts. Let's keep spreading the good word of the wild.

Sleep, Eating on-the-go, and To-Do's (Quicky Episode)
Sunday Dec 08, 2019
Sunday Dec 08, 2019
Hey monkiis,
I just got back from a 5-night work trip and wanted to share some thoughts from the trip. I did not sleep or eat particularly well and am not feeling so Wild because of that. Sometimes it takes a little reminder as to why these facets of life are so important. I also wanted to share a little tip for helping to reduce stress and hopefully sleep better.
If you have an idea for a guest for the Live Wild or Die podcast, please let me know. Getting more voices is my goal for 2020.
Thanks for listening and monkii on!

Wednesday Nov 27, 2019
Hey monkiis,
This is a bit of a mashup show with lots of topics covered. I wanted to share a quick travel workout recap. I had a minor injury the day before hitting the road, but I was still able to do something. #monkiimindset. I also wanted to respond to an IG message from a monkii. He has 2 kids, limited space, and needed a monkii-kick in the ass the keep up his training momentum.
Thanks for tuning in and I appreciate the 5-star review you monkiis are leaving, THANK YOU!
Have a Happy and Wild Thanksgiving and I'll see you next time,

Monday Nov 18, 2019
Monday Nov 18, 2019
Hey monkiis,
I'm about to hit the road and wanted to share some of the tactics that I use to stay fit and maintain the monkii mindset while traveling. It's really a suite of small actions that add up to a significant result. I hope this helps you stay Wilder during any upcoming holiday travel. I'd be psyched to hear from the monkiis out there about what you do when you travel to keep the momentum and workout on the road.
Training:
-Make a plan and commit.
-Remove barriers.
-Train in the morning.
-Something is better than nothing.
-Make workouts part of the fun or adventure.
-Walk/Hike/Run.
@ the airport:
-Walk and listen to a podcast.
-'Sit' in a deep squat.
-Take the stairs.
-Carry your bag (instead of rolling).
-Drink water.
In the air:
-DRINK WATER.
-Walk the aisle.
-Fidget and do Isometrics.
-Stretch.
-Go to the bathroom multiple times (or at least pretend to).

How I Program My Training
Friday Nov 01, 2019
Friday Nov 01, 2019
Hey monkiis,
This episode was inspired by the Wildman @zachlambert via Instagram. He sent in a great question regarding programming and specifically asked how I laid out my programming. He was also curious about how he could use microworkouts to avoid overtraining. I start off by sharing a detailed version of my last week of training. I also discuss how training shifts throughout the year in response to different goals and objectives I have on the calendar. Regardless of what's going on, I always try to maintain a solid base of strength and conditioning. I want to be strong and I want to be able to go far. I hope this episode provides some helpful insights into your own monkii training!

Thoughts on Nutrition
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
Howdy monkiis,
This episode was inspired by Mrs. monkii. We were chatting before dinner and I was reflecting that "If I had to write a book on nutrition, I'm not sure what I would write...". This forced me to actually think and synthesize my thoughts. I am by no means an expert, but I believe that I eat really well and that there is a danger of paralysis by analysis when you try and get too granular with your 'diet'. In fact, I don't even like using that word - diet. I much prefer to encourage people/monkiis to develop a nutrition philosophy that they can seamlessly incorporate into their life.
What does your Nutrition Philosophy look like?

The Development of monkii 360
Thursday Oct 24, 2019
Thursday Oct 24, 2019
Hey monkiis,
In this episode I talk about the development process we went through to get monkii 360 to where it is today. It's been over 2 years in the making and there was a time when we wondered if it would ever become a reality. Making things is hard. I find myself moving through the world looking around wondering how anything is made. Even the simplest items can be quite challenging.
At the time of posting this episode, the Kickstarter for monkii 360 has 14 days remaining and has raised $1,150,509 from 5,501 bakers. We are eternally grateful to the monkii family for supporting us through thick and wild. We literally would not be here without your support.

The Anti-Dadbod Mindset. How to stay fit when you're busy.
Monday Sep 23, 2019
Monday Sep 23, 2019
Hey monkiis,
My daughter just turned 1 a few weeks back and in reflecting on the last year, my wife suggested that I talk about how I have changed my training regimen to fit better into family life. Even if you do not have kids, anyone who is busy would benefit from considering these principles. Essentially, I have gotten rid of formal workouts, and instead I train 2-4 times throughout the day in 'microworkout' sessions. This could be a morning yoga session, a monkii workout midday, or throwing on the weight vest for a stroll around the block. It's all about seeing the opportunity in every moment and being prepared to make the most of the time that you do have.
I used this concept to complete the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim this past Spring. I felt great and it was never a huge hassle to train. Interestingly, I also felt better in general. Even though I may have been doing more total volume, it was in a non-exhaustive way. The experiment goes on...

Hey monkiis,
I just finished chatting with the Wildman and OG monkii Stevie Richards. You may recognize Stevie from the WWE and ECW (to name a few). Stevie is the host if the Stevie Richards Broadcast and the Stevie Richards YouTube channel. More on Stevie: He is a 2-time ECW World Tag Team Champion, numerous championships from wrestling companies around the world and 22-time WWE Hardcore Champion- the most of any other wrestler in WWE history. He would also go on to appear in several WrestleManias; the WWE’s equivalent of the Super Bowl and be voted as one of the Top 50 “Most Jacked” Superstars in WWE History. Like I said, a Wildman.
We talk about a ton of different topics from monkii 360, training philosophies, exercises modalities, mindset, and motivation (to name a few). Thanks for coming along for the journey!
monkii 360 launches on Kickstarter in 4 days! Be there at 10am EST on 9/10/2019 to get yours.
