The Secret to Overcoming the Hesitation Gap
Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
League of Wildness -
There was some recent chatter on the monkii wild Facebook group in regards to cold showers. Chris asked the group how he can basically harden the f$%# up and start getting into the cold shower program. We heard from the arctic, the north, and the south - all wild places with different perspectives on how to approach environmental conditioning through the medium of cold showers. Let's keep the conversation going.
Thanks for listening!

The Six Elements of a Fitness Practice
Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
League of Wildness -
I was out running hill sprints and started thinking about how I structure my training in regards to the frequency of these 6 key pillars:
- Nutrition
- Movement
- Range of Motion
- Strength
- Power
- Intensity
Basically, I was deconstructing the frequency I "train" each pillar or how often it is incorporated into my life. This isn't necessarily a pyramid where the lower layer must be complete before adding the next, but it certainly would not be a bad goal to aim for. You can use this template to think about where you could improve in your own practice - I hope it's useful.
How does what you're doing mesh with the pyramid? Let me know!
Thanks for listening!

First-Thing Mindset
Monday Apr 04, 2022
Monday Apr 04, 2022
League of Wildness,
I was dragging ass around the house after a poor night of sleep and had this epiphany I wanted to share. As soon as I did the 'first thing' - which in this case was getting dressed to go for a run - my mindset completely changed. I've heard this concept discussed before, but what has not been fully appreciated is how much your mindset changes as soon as you start to take action. It's a binary. A 0 to 1 phenomenon.
I went about the rest of my day thinking of all the other 'first things' I could do.
What are your thoughts? What are the 'first things' you can do?
Thanks for listening!

Have You Already Done the Impossible? Nims Purja and 14 Peaks
Wednesday Mar 16, 2022
Wednesday Mar 16, 2022
League of Wildness,
I just finished listening to Nims Purja on Joe Rogan. Nims' film "14 Peaks" is a must-watch for any dedicated LoW member and I'd highly recommend the Rogan podcast as well. Nims completed what everyone else thought was absolutely impossible - climbing the 14 highest peaks in the world in a span of six months. He beat the previous record by several years. He's a wildman.
Listening to Nims share his journey made me reflect. Yes - he did something incredible that was thought to be impossible. But haven't we all done things we thought were impossible? To me - the difference is in the magnitude versus the absolute difficulty. If we took the time to really think about times we had to push beyond what we thought was possible, no matter how small or trivial it might seem, we are capable of much much more.
It's more about how hard something was for you as the individual instead of trying to quantify difficulty on an absolute level.
Thanks for listening!

Are You Getting Outside Enough? (All-Wild Episode)
Monday Mar 14, 2022
Monday Mar 14, 2022
League of WIldness,
This is an experimental episode recorded on the trail and in the wild. I keep hearing different authorities preach about the importance of getting outside. This is fantastic, however, I find that without any specific directive - the idea stays an idea and fails to become manifested through action. So, I created my own. See below:
- Get outside every single day for 10 minutes at the absolute minimum.
- 30 minutes is ideal.
- More outside time is always better.
How did you like the All-Wild episode concept?
The sound can definitely be improved and if anyone has a headset microphone they recommend please let me know.
Thanks for listening!

Is Tempo Training the Answer?
Thursday Mar 10, 2022
Thursday Mar 10, 2022
League of Wildness,
Today we're talking about Tempo Training and why I've been psyched on including it in my own training of recent.
What is Tempo Training?
>>Reps performed @ a prescribed cadence.
Tempo Training is always written as a four-number prescription.
For example: 3111
First number (3): This is the eccentric lowering portion of the exercise.
Second number (1): This is how long to pause at the bottom of the exercise.
Third Number (1): This is the length of the concentric (muscle shortening) portion of the exercise.
Fourth number: (1) How long to pause at the top of the exercise.
Why include Tempo Training?
- Improve movement quality.
- Reduce the likelihood of injury.
- Improve connective tissue health.
- Increase strength.
Example workout:
2-3 sets
Pushups @ Tempo 3111 8-12 reps.
Rest 60-90 seconds.
Should we include Tempo Training in future programs?
Thanks for listening!

Are You Making This Mistake with Your Information Diet?
Wednesday Mar 09, 2022
Wednesday Mar 09, 2022
League of Wildness,
There is an infinite amount of content we can consume. But like food, overconsuming content can cause problems. The challenge is that it feels good to get those 'ah-ha' moments, but if we never actually apply them in the real world I have to ask - what's the point?
I've strived to be much more intentional not only in regards to the content I consume but also in how I consume it. Specifically, I've been keeping notes on my phone where I'll just write a sentence or two from a podcast that I know will be valuable in the future.
In Kim's email last week, she did a FANTASTIC job outlining how she really took the time to go deep into a book and then apply the lessons into her life. She didn't just read the book and go "That's interesting. Okay, what's next?". She took the time and put in a serious writing effort to distill some of her own source code. I'm super inspired by hearing about her process and we hope to share more with the League.
Thanks for listening!
