Hey monkiis,
I wanted to drop some quick thoughts on how you can apply the consistency mindset of training into other areas of your life. It's not super sexy, but it freakin' works.

Stop Wasting Time - Approaching Tech with Intention
Wednesday Apr 07, 2021
Wednesday Apr 07, 2021
Hey monkiis,
I had an idea come to me this morning while considering how much time I waste scrolling mindlessly on my phone seeking a hit of dopamine. The tendency is to categorize things as either good or bad while upon deeper consideration there are many facets of life that lie somewhere in the middle. The idea that 'tech is evil' is definitely an idea I've gravitated towards. But maybe I'm just thinking about it in the wrong way. There are certainly aspects of tech that are evil - literally and figuratively, but there is also unlimited potential and you now have access to essentially all of human knowledge in a device that fits into your pocket.
Here's my thought experiment: how much better can you make your life and how much time can you stop wasting by creating a habit of using technology with intention.
You are no longer allowed to use Instagram, Facebook, Strava, YouTube, or the internet in general for mindless entertainment. Instead, before opening an app or search engine, you must have a specific purpose for doing so, and that purpose must be related to doing or learning something useful.
I hope that you find this episode useful.

First Principles of Health and Wellness (Quicky Episode)
Wednesday Mar 17, 2021
Wednesday Mar 17, 2021
Hey monkiis,
Since becoming a Dad, owning a growing business, and not being 20 years old anymore, I've been taking a much more holistic look at my 'training'. I'm considering all the other inputs besides "what's my workout?" to make sure I'm doing the little things that will lead to long-term results. These are the principles that you need to get dialed to make sure you get the most from your focused training. The 4 first-principles I've distilled out include the following:
- Sleep
- Stress Management
- Nutrition
- Non-exercise activity
If you can be killing it with these principles you are going to absorb and benefit so much more from whatever training modality you so choose. I think you will also realize how much better you perform and how much better you feel when you have your 'house in order'.
What do you think of the pyramid?
As I mention in the intro, check out the Barefoot training System for monkii 360.

3 Approaches to Microworkouts (Quicky Episode)
Wednesday Mar 10, 2021
Wednesday Mar 10, 2021
Hey monkiis,
The concept of Microworkouts has been on my mind a lot recently. They are such an effective tool to have in your belt and I think have both health and performance applications. I have distilled my thoughts down to three ways that you can utilize Microworkouts to fit your specific needs. Check them out:
My favorite monkii Microworkout device at the moment is Isocore X.
1) Workouts that are less than the standard 1-hour gym workout. I wouldn't put a hard upper or lower limit, but I'd say somewhere around 20-minutes max, but ideally something closer to 'a few minutes'. This type of sesh would fall under the header of 'training' - exposing the body to a minimum effective dose that crosses the threshold of adaption eliciting the anti-fragile, super-compensation effect.
2) Take the volume of a 1-hour workout and spread it over multiple sessions throughout the day to accumulate the same (or potentially more) volume than you would in a typical 1-hour workout. However since it is spread throughout the day you accomplish the work in a 'non-exhaustive way'.
3) Microworkouts as a way to incorporate more total movement throughout the day. This is more about interrupting long periods of inactivity versus making gains. You can essentially do anything that isn't just sitting or standing there. I'd argue you'd still be making 'gains' simply by moving more - regardless of whether it is a workout or something more along the lines of non-exercise activity.

Brad Kearns - Two Meals a Day Book
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Hey monkiis,
I'd like to welcome back to the show, the Wildman Brad Kearns (@bradkearns1). Brad is the co-author, along with another Wildman - Mark Sisson - of the new book Two Meals a Day. The book is all about developing metabolic flexibility through a variety of lifestyle and nutrition strategies. There are a lot of parallels with the #monkiiMindset and I think there is a lot to learn from these guys.
Brad is also the host of the B.RAD podcast which I am a frequent listener of, in addition to being a recent guest on the show. He covers all sorts of topics I think you monkiis would appreciate and his guest lineup is legit.
I also need to give a shoutout to Brad's Macadamia Masterpiece: Mind-Blowing Nut Butter Blend. He was kind enough to send me a few jars and this stuff is THE BOMB. No B.S. ingredients and it's straight-up delicious.
From Brad's official bio:
Brad Kearns, 55, is a New York Times bestselling author, Guinness World Record setting professional Speedgolfer, #3 world-ranked Masters age 55-59 track&field high jumper, and former national champion and #3 world-ranked professional triathlete. He has written twenty books on diet, health, peak performance, and ancestral living, and is a popular speaker, retreat host, and face of the Primal Blueprint online multimedia educational courses. In 2017, The Keto Reset Diet became a New York Times bestseller, and briefly ranked as the #1 overall bestselling book on amazon.com.
You can check out Brad's website for all kinds of solid info: www.BradKearns.com.
Thanks again for coming on the show Wildman Brad!

Microworkouts monkii-Style (Quicky Episode)
Wednesday Feb 24, 2021
Wednesday Feb 24, 2021
Hey monkiis,
This is a follow-up to Episode #89 as well as Episode #65 - Minimalist Approach to Health Gains. I realized last night that I spoke for 45-minutes without giving proper due to the gear that we all hold so dear - our monkii gear! I wanted to share how I've been using pocket monkii and monkii 360 specifically in the context of Microworkouts.
I also touch on a more nuanced look at Microworkouts themselves. You can utilize this strategy for both training/performance as well as to simply increase your non-exercise activity. I think it is essential to identify what you are trying to achieve with any movement practice you chose so that you continue to make forward progress. It's all about getting the most from your time and ultimately, enjoying life.
How do you use your monkii gear for Microworkouts?

Tuesday Feb 23, 2021
Tuesday Feb 23, 2021
Hey monkiis,
I just finished up a 5-week training program I had written for myself and wanted to share some reflections. I also wanted to share some solid thoughts shared by the NorCal Wildman monkii Craig. He shared a personal anecdote of his experience getting JACKED using bodyweight training only and also had a really solid hierarchy that he developed around the 'why' for his training.
monkii Craig's Training hierarchy:
